In several sessions, the experts and MPs from 14 EU member states will exchange different points of views regarding possible challenges to the future relation of national parliaments and the European Parliament.
In session 1 we will deal with the participation of national parliaments in the EU co-decision-making process. It will be discussed if the principle of subsidiarity is under threat.
In session 2 we will examine the role and competences of the European Parliament and national parliaments regarding judgments about the quality of democracy in EU member countries.
In session 3 we will discuss if there is a need for institutional reform in the framework of the Lisbon Treaty.
In session 4 we will deliberate how an often perceived gap between the EU institutions and the European citizens can be bridged.
