On 3rd May 2017, the Vice Rector Research and Innovation of Stellenbosch University, Prof. Dr. Eugene Cloete launched a newly published book called “Roadmap for Sustainable Biofuels in southern Africa: Regulatory frameworks for improved development?”.

The legal and transdisciplinary book was edited by Prof. Dr. Oliver C. Ruppel and Dr. Holger Dix. The book launch was organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s Regional Programme for Climate Policy and Energy Security for sub-Saharan Africa and held at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS).

Professor Cloete commended both the timely relevance of the publication and thanked the authors (Ryan Blanchard, Tjaša Bole-Rentel, Alan C. Brent, Eddie G. Cross, Johann F. Görgens, Manisha Gulati, Chengetai E. Hamadziripi, Johann H. Krige, Sabrina Kumschick, Renata A Marcheti, Vincent Musewe, Antonio D. Padula, Lena C. Plato, David M. Richardson, Oliver C. Ruppel, Louise Scholtz, and Willem H van Zyl), many of which are based in Stellenbosch.

The book appears in the legal series “Law and Constitution in Africa” at NOMOS law publishers in Germany. Some of a legal others of a more scientific nature, several authors presented the gist of the interdisciplinary contributions at the occasion, while Dr. Bothwell Batidzirai from the Energy Research Centre at the University of Cape Town commented as responded to the interventions.

According to Professor Eugene Cloete “this is exactly the type of research and publication that we foster at Stellenbosch University, especially when it has potential for development and to improve the lives of the neediest in our society.”
