Albanien und die Religion – ein weltweit einzigartiger Fall

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung gab Studie zu Religionsfragen in Auftrag

Albanien ist das einzige Land der Welt, in dem Religion jemals per Gesetz verboten wurde. Für fast ein Vierteljahrhundert führte der kommunistische Diktator Enver Hoxha einen Krieg gegen Religion. Ab 1967 und bis 1990 wurden religiöse Institutionen geschlossen, die Ausübung religiöser Riten verboten sowie die bloße Äußerung religiöser Überzeugungen als Verbrechen gegen den Staat betrachtet. Letzteres wurde eigens in einen Artikel des Strafgesetzbuches aufgenommen, der ein Strafmaß von drei bis zehn Jahren Gefängnis vorsah.
