The seventh issue of the African Journal of Environmental Law (RADE) focuses on examining the legal framework of sustainable development in Africa, with a particular emphasis on its incorporation into the legal systems of French-speaking African states to foster progress and knowledge sharing in environmental law across the continent.

Der erweiterte Angriffskrieg Russlands gegen die Ukraine im Februar 2022 bestimmt unverändert den Kurs der NATO. Während die Resonanz auf die vage formulierte ukrainische Beitrittsperspektive nach dem zurückliegenden Gipfel in Vilnius sehr unterschiedlich ausfiel, wird die Positionierung gegenüber Russlands Aggression von einem breiten Konsens getragen. Sowohl die Maßnahmen, auf die sich die Bündnispartner im Abschluss-Communiqué verständigt haben, als auch die bilateralen Vereinbarungen der letzten Monate lassen keine Zweifel: Die NATO-Partner stehen füreinander ein. Nachfolgend finden Sie eine kurze Übersicht über die verschiedenen Ansätze und Ausprägungen der Partner und Host Nations in den drei Baltischen Staaten. Zum Schutz der Baltischen Staaten verstärken Kanada, Großbri-tannien und Deutschland derzeit ihre Truppenpräsenz an der Ostflanke. Die deutsche Ankündigung, eine dauerhafte Brigade in Litauen stationieren zu wollen, war nicht nur eine Überraschung, es ist auch ein gänzlich anderer Ansatz als der mancher Partner. In Anbetracht der damit verbundenen Herausforderungen nicht ohne Grund.

Tanzania's Regional Role: Governance, mediation and Economic Diplomacy

Roundtable meeting in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania

On 18 May 2023, the Chatham House Africa Programme and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Tanzania office convened a private roundtable meeting in Arusha. The discussion focused on Tanzania’s foreign policy priorities for regional engagement in both Southern and Eastern Africa, including the status of economic integration and trade initiatives, governance and political ties, and collaboration to address peace and security challenges. The roundtable marked the second event in a project partnership series between KAS and Chatham House on Tanzania’s Foreign Policy Agenda: Economic Diplomacy and International Agency. The series aims to encourage informed dialogue and debate at an important moment for Tanzania’s external engagements: the country’s main foreign relations strategy document, the ‘New Foreign Policy’, was adopted in 2001, but an official review has been commissioned by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and is to take place in 2023. The first event under this collaboration, a webinar on Tanzanian agency in the international system, was held in November 2022. A summary of that first meeting is available to read. This Arusha roundtable meeting was held under the Chatham House Rule. The following document summarizes the key findings and themes of the discussion.

Am Sonntag, den 13. August, fanden in Argentinien die Primarias Abiertas, Simultáneas y Obligatorias, kurz PASO, statt. Seit 2009 werden in den für alle wahlberechtigten Bürger verpflichtenden offenen Vorwahlen die Kandidaten der Parteien für die Parlaments- und Präsidentschaftswahlen bestimmt. Die PASO sind gerade auch für kleinere Parteien bedeutend, da darüber entschieden wird, welche politischen Kräfte sich letztendlich am 22. Oktober zur Wahl stellen dürfen. Dafür müssen sie mindestens 1,5 % der Stimmen gewinnen.

As a result, an expanded perspective on the dynamics of economic involvement and strategic decision-making in a complex and interconnected world can be gained through comprehending Tanzania's diplomatic strategy.
