Am 4. November gab Saad Hariri während eines Besuchs in Riad im saudischen Fernsehsender Al-Arabiya seinen Rücktritt als Regierungschef des Libanon bekannt. Spätestens da wurde deutlich, in welchem Ausmaß das Land zur Arena eines aufziehenden Stellvertreterkonflikts im Regionalkonflikt zwischen dem Iran und Saudi-Arabien um den schiitisch-sunnitischen Deutungsstreit und die geostrategische sowie politisch-ideologische Kontrolle über den Nahen Osten geworden ist. Parallel zu den regionalen Entwicklungen stellt man sich im Libanon auf eine mögliche längere innenpolitische Krise ein.

Bundestag election in Germany on 24 September 2017

The results of the 2017 Bundestag election are ambivalent. Both major parties lost support. Of the small parties, FDP and AfD were able to mobilize support, while The Greens and The Left barely experienced notable changes. The CDU/CSU union performed best, thus constituting the largest faction with the mandate to form a government – which was nothing to be taken for granted after 12 years in power. Two options are conceivable politically: a Grand Coalition and a so-called “Jamaica coalition” consisting of the Union, FDP and The Greens, as currently governs in Schleswig-Holstein.

Le résultat des élections législatives de 2017 est ambivalent. Les deux grands partis traditionnels perdent des voix. Parmi les petits partis, seuls le FDP et l'AFD parviennent à mobiliser les électeurs, tandis que les Verts et Die Linke ne connaissent pas d'évolution significative. La CDU-CSU obtient le meilleur résultat ; elle constituera donc le plus grand groupe parlementaire et aura la responsabilité de former un gouvernement, ce qui est remarquable après douze années passées à la tête du pays.

Das Resultat der Bundestagswahl 2017 ist ambivalent. Beide Volksparteien verlieren an Unterstützung. Von den kleinen Parteien können FDP und AfD mobilisieren, während bei den Grünen und der Linken kaum Veränderungen sichtbar sind. Die Union schneidet am besten ab, stellt damit die größte Fraktion und hat den Auftrag eine Regierung zu bilden, nach 12 Jahren Regierungszeit keine Selbstverständlichkeit. Rechnerisch und politisch sind zwei Optionen denkbar: eine Große Koalition und eine sogenannte Jamaika-Koalition aus Union, FDP und Grünen, wie sie derzeit in Schleswig-Holstein regiert.

The federal election of September 24, 2017

Despite severe losses the two Christian democratic parties attained important strategic goals. They remained as the strongest political forces in Germany. There is no winning coalition without them possible and Angela Merkel will be Germany’s next chancellor.The Social democrats lost more than five percentage points and gained 20.5 per cent of the votes. This is the worst result the Social democrats got in an election since the foundation of the Federal Republic.
