„From Beirut to Baghdad – Konrad’s Journey through the Middle East“ (Episode 4)
In the fourth episode Sam Dagher takes a look back at the Arab Spring in Syria and Iraq; How did the events unfold in 2011, how was life in Damascus and Baghdad at that time, and lastly what is left of the demands a decade after the uprisings? While the initial protests in Iraq calmed down quickly, the root causes for public anger remain unresolved until today and new waves of protest shook the country again and again, in particular since October 2019.
The uprising in Syria on the other hand quickly turned violent and the country has sunk into conflict and bloodshed – with no solution in sight.
What does the future hold for these two countries? And is there any hope left, despite of the unfulfilled demands and ongoing violence?
