Following the United Kingdom’s referendum on leaving the EU on 23rd June 2016 and the subsequent activation of the procedure set out in Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union, the EU now faces an unprecedented challenge: the departure of one of its most important members. Now that negotiations are underway on the terms of the UK’s exit and the possible agreement to regulate subsequent EU-UK relations, several issues have arisen in the public debate, including the type of integration to be expected of EU member states, the role to be played by the various European institutions in this integration, the role of Germany in this historical context, and the position of Spain with regard to this debate and the challenges facing the EU. At this seminar, organised jointly by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, ESADE Law School and GEDECO, leading experts on European institutions will address the issue from both a theoretical and a practical perspective.
