Importance of BRI and BBIN for South Asia

Consortium of South Asian Think Tanks(COSATT) is a grouping of leading think tanks in South Asia, which meet to research and study on significant problems concerning the region.

As one of the fastest growing regions in the world,countries of South Asia recognize the need to improve the state of connectivity both within their borders and with neighbouring countries. Experts from the member think tanks of COSATT will meet in Bangladesh to discuss the Belt and Road Inititaive (BRI)and the Bangladesh Bhutan India Nepal (BBIN)and its importance for the region. Key issues related to connectivity within the region and how to integrate South Asia physically and economically will also be explored.

Since its inception in 2008 , COSATT has organized a series of regional conferences in countries of South and South East Asian region on various themes from regional cooperation, regional connectivity, terrorism, environment-climate change, migration, refugee/IDPs to other cross-cutting issues. Besides the representatives from member think tanks of COSATT, the regional conferences have also incorporated participants from multiple stakeholders, representatives from the governmental, non-governmental, former minister, track-two, members of the strategic community, academia and researchers.
