Historischer Wahlsieg für die Labour Party bei den Parlamentswahlen in Neuseeland

„and the winner is ... Jacinda Ardern“- jede Oscar-Preisverleihung wäre überraschender gewesen als der Ausgang der neuseeländischen Parlamentswahlen am 17. Oktober. Die Umfragen, welche die Labour Party über Monate vorne gesehen hatten, sollten sich verwirklichen. Das Ergebnis hat die Vorhersagen sogar noch übertroffen: die amtierende Labour-Regierung unter Führung von Jacinda Ardern ist nach dem vorläufigen Wahlergebnis mit 49,1 Prozent nicht nur stärkste Kraft, sondern gewinnt mit 64 Sitzen auch die absolute Mehrheit im Parlament. Es ging am Wahltag weniger um die Frage, ob die Partei gewinnen würde, sondern vielmehr darum, ob das Wahlergebnis und die Mehrheitsverhältnisse im Parlament eine Koalition zur Regierungsbildung erfordern würde oder nicht. Die oppositionelle National Party unter Judith Collins musste ihre desaströse Niederlage eingestehen. Es ist ihr nicht gelungen, den von der Covid-Krise dominierten Wahlkampf zu ihren Gunsten zu führen. Im Folgenden sollen das Wahlergebnis und die Hintergründe, die zum fulminanten Sieg der Labour Party und zur niederschmetternden Wahlniederlage der National Party geführt haben, analysiert und die zukünftigen politischen Herausforderungen für die neue Regierung und die Opposition aufgezeigt werden.

Konrad Adenauer Lecture Series

Australia & Pacific

The Konrad Adenauer Lecture Series is focused on enhancing understanding of Germany and Europe in Australia and the wider region. Since the inaugural Konrad Adenauer Lecture took place in November 2017 it has presented a variety of high ranking international speakers. The establishment of the prestigious annual Konrad Adenauer Lecture was the culmination of an ongoing collaboration between the ANU Centre for European Studies (ANUCES) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS). Over a number of years ANUCES and KAS have worked to bring together researchers and policymakers on issues of critical importance in both Europe and Australia. Their collaborative events and publications have promoted dialogue among scholars and practitioners to address common problems and identify shared interests. ANUCES and KAS formalised their partnership in the form of their commitment to an annual, high-profile lecture series and subsequent papers.
