KAS Panel Discussion followed by Networking Lunch - 4 April, 2024 - Wellington, NZ (this event is in English only)

Konrad Adenauer Stiftung – Regional Programme for Australia and the Pacific (KAS Australia) is pleased to support a panel discussion followed by a networking luncheon on 4 April 2024 in Wellington. Moderated by KAS Australia’s Director, Bertil Wenger, the panel discussion will be concerned with “Emerging Democracies in Africa and the Pacific – Challenges in A World of Turmoil” and feature high level speakers from those regions. The event will be held in the context of the IDU Forum scheduled to take place from 3 to 5 April 2024 in New Zealand’s capital.

The initiative is the culmination of a longstanding partnership between the ANU Centre for European Studies and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, a German political foundation with a regional representation in Canberra, covering Australia, New Zealand and 13 Pacific Island States.

Usually, this is achieved through a combination of roundtables, an in-depth seminar and meetings at various relevant institutions and ministries, as well as the respective federal, state and EU Parliaments – alternating between Canberra/Sydney and Berlin/Brussels as locations.

A DIALOGUE WITH THE DEFENCE MINISTERS OF AUSTRALIA AND GERMANY

KAS Australia and the Pacific, in partnership with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), brought together The Honourable Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Federal Minister of Defence, Germany and Senator the Honourable Linda Reynolds CSC, Minister for Defence, Australia for a hybrid dialogue on the strategic outlook in the Indo-Pacific and the potential of Australian–German Defence relations. The discussion was moderated by ASPI’s Executive Director Peter Jennings, with KAS Australia & The Pacific Director Dr Beatrice Gorawantschy introducing the Ministers and delivering the vote of thanks.
