Information and dialogue programme in Nadi and Suva

As part of KAS portfolio in the region, the KAS Regional Programme Australia and the Pacific undertook a project scoping trip to Nadi and Suva.

Dr. Beatrice Gorawantschy, Director of the KAS Regional Programme Australia and the Pacific, accompanied by Simon Aleker, KAS Programme Manager New Zealand and the Pacific, undertook a fact-finding mission to the Republic of Fiji from 5 to 11 August 2017.

The aim of the fact-finding mission was to identify areas of activity and cooperation possibilities between the KAS and selected organisations and institutions in the fields of democracy development, institution building, capacity building and good governance.

KAS has set itself the target to offer solutions for democratic deficits through dialogue between politics and civil society, to initiate a dialogue on social and economic policy issues, as well as to contribute to climate change and energy policy for the South Pacific region.

In accordance with this remit, meetings were held with the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany, Fiji National University (FNU), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Pacific Office – Fiji, German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Pacific Islands Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (PIANGO),Delegation of the European Union in the Pacific (EU), Council for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF), Fiji Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), University of the South Pacific (USP), USP School of Government, Development and International Affairs (SGDIA), Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Fiji.
