Visit to the Cameroonian Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development - Regional Programme Energy Security and Climate Change in Sub-Saharan Africa

On the 14th of March 2017, the newly established Climate Policy and Energy Security Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa with the office based in Yaoundé, Cameroon has visited the minister of Environment Nature Protection and Sustainable Development of Cameroon his Excellency Mr Helle Pierre.
During the visit, the Resident Representative of KAS Cameroon Professor Oliver Ruppel introduced the new regional KAS Programme and explained the relevance of this program for Cameroon and the continent. Furthermore, the Resident Representative of KAS and the Minister and his delegation discussed potential for cooperation in Cameroon and also the intentions of KAS to publish a brochure entitled: “Actors on climate change and climate relevant information in Cameroon for policy makers”.
The Minister welcomed the intention to publish such a brochure to inform policy makers in Cameroon of climate relevant developments and to investigate the legal environment of climate change in Cameroon, especially with regards to Cameroon’s commitment under the Paris Agreement and its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). This project will be implemented in preparation of COP23 in Bonn which will take place later this year. The Minister and the Ministry welcomed Konrad Adenauer Foundation to Cameroon and assured KAS the support of the Cameroonian Government. He also welcomed the objectives of the new KAS office and wished KAS an excellent start in Cameroon.
