Upholding the Rights of Indigenous People in New Malaysia

This conference aims to address the issues that revolve around the Orang Asli Act 1954 that has threatened the fundamental rights of the indigenous people of Malaysia, and to explore constructive mechanisms to overcome the issues of indigenous land rights and livelihoods.

About 100 people from the indigenous communities of Peninsula Malaysia were invited to participate and converse with relevant stakeholders such as the ministry representatives, government agencies and statutory bodies to find feasible ways to “Defend the Rights of Indigenous People in the New Malaysia”.

  • Enabling Orang Asli land rights based on the existing laws
  • The direction and status of the Orang Asli in New Malaysia
