As part of the contribution of the National Commission on Culture to the socio-economic development of the country, the Commission is tasked with the responsibility of assessing the role of culture in all the facets of the Ghanaian life. In the light of this, the Commission with the support of KAS commenced a project in 2004 to evaluate the contribution of culture in the Ghanaian corporate life.

Two separate workshops were held in 2004 and 2005 for stakeholders in corporate governance. Following from these workshops, it was realised that there was the need to organise a national workshop where issues and ideas emanating from these programmes could be collated and synthesized for publication and the way forward. Based on this background, the National Commission on Culture with support from KAS is organising a national workshop on culture and corporate governance.

The objectives of the conference are:

1. To investigate the impact of socio-cultural practices on Ghanaian work culture, institutional practices, discipline and general productivity.
2. To offer payers in industry the opportunity to compare notes on Ghana socio-cultural practices as against international conventions and best practices in Human Resources practices.
3. To come out with a draft document that could sensitize practitioners, employers, employees and academics to formulate policies and undertake practices that would engender growth in our industrial and human resource practices.
4. To provide a platform for dialogue on best practices borne out of the socio-cultural experiences.

The conference will bring together Human Resource Practitioners, Academics, Traditional Leaders, Opinion Leaders, Chief Executive Officers of Industry, Regulators, Employers and Employees.
