KAF AND MINISTRY OF REGIONAL COOPERATION AND NEPAD

EDUCATE DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVES OF WESTERN AND CENTRAL REGIONS

ON NEPAD AND THE APRM IN BUSUA

10TH-11TH APRIL 2006

The Ministry of Regional Cooperation and NEPAD, which has a responsibility to educate, sensitize and create ownership of NEPAD and its development policy objectives has progressed from the regional workshops to the district level. The Ministry with support of KAF started this project last year which covered the three Northern Regions. The programme which was described as eye opening workshop by the District Chief Executives in the regions would be replicated in other parts of the country.

The first in the series for 2006 would be held in Busua Beach Resort for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives of Western and Central Regions.

The objective of these workshops is to inculcate the values and ideals of NEPAD as well as the findings of the APRM and the Programme of Action into the political and administrative heads of the districts. These are the focal points of developments in the country. These heads determines priority District development programmes as well as administers the resources to implement these programmes. Hence the failure and successes of any government public policy largely depends on their actions and inactions towards the particular policy.

At the end of the workshop it is expected that, these political and administrative heads would integrate the ideals of NEPAD and the APRM Programme of Action into the District Development Programmes, which drives the activities of the district assemblies in Ghana.
