Spiele sind logistische Herausforderung für London

Heute am 27. Juli 2012 beginnen mit der Eröffnungsveranstaltung im Olympia-Park die Olympischen Spiele 2012. Es werden 6 Millionen Gäste in der der 8 Millionen Einwohner zählenden Metropole London erwartet. Die Spiele dauern bis zum 12. August an, dem folgen die Paralympics vom 29. August bis zum 9. September.

Das irische Referendum

IRLAND STIMMT ÜBER DEN EUROPÄISCHEN FISKALPAKT AB

Am 31. Mai stimmte die Bevölkerung in Irland in einem Referendum darüber ab, ob die Regeln des europäischen Fiskalpakts in Irland Gesetzescharakter bekommen. Rund 60 Prozent stimmten dafür, allerdings war die Wahlbeteiligung mit ca. 50 Prozent niedrig. Die deutliche Zustimmung setzt ein positives Zeichen für die Eurozone. British-German Security Cooperation

British-German Dialogue on Security

In 2012, The Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) launched the "British-German Dialogue on Security". Over the past few months, several workshops addressing the topic have taken place. The goal was to develop new ideas and incentives for British-German cooperation in both NATO and European Security Policy. Lisa Aronsson (RUSI) and Patrick Keller (KAS) have written a report examining the outcome of these workshops. Furthermore, the report will focus on future challenges and upcoming tasks.

KAS Energy Security Fellowship

The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung is pleased to announce the first KAS Energy Security Fellowship, which is to be hosted at the European Centre for Energy and Resource Security (EUCERS) at King's College London. The fellowship will fund a research stay of 12-months for a European Union (EU) resident research fellow starting in September 2012. The topic of this year’s Fellowship is “The Arab Spring and its impact on supply and production in global markets”. For more information and to apply, please see the attached document.

Kommunalwahlen mit Botschaft an Westminster

Am 3. Mai fanden in vielen Distrikten Englands, einschließlich der Hauptstadt London, Schottlands und Wales Kommunalwahlen statt. Mit einigen Ausnahmen waren die Ergebnisse mehr vom Eindruck der Wähler über die Regierung Cameron geprägt als vom lokalen Geschehen.

Wahlen in London

Am 3. Mai 2012 finden in 128 Regierungsbezirken Englands Wahlen statt. Außerdem werden in Schottland und Wales am selben Tag Kommunalwahlen durchgeführt. Dabei werden in England nicht nur die Kommunalparlamente gewählt, sondern auch 3 der 15 direkt zu wählenden Bürgermeister – der Londoner Bürgermeister eingeschlossen. Vor allem dieser Wahl gilt das Interesse, da der Bürgermeister der mit fast 8 Millionen Einwohnern größten Stadt in Großbritannien erhebliches politisches Gewicht besitzt.
