Conflict in Sudan: An Invitation to a Dialogue Session

A KAS-MDC Forum for Intra-Regional Dialogue

Join us for an expert panel discussing the conflict in Sudan. This event, moderated by Sarah Awaidah, brings together Gal Lusky, the founder of Israeli Flying Aid (IFA), Dr. Haim Koren, former director of the Political Planning Division at Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Israeli ambassador to Egypt and South Sudan. They will be joined by Mekki El Mograbi press writer on African Affairs and former diplomat in Washington D.C.

The Jewish King of Warsaw: Szczepan Twardoch in conversation with Michal Zamir

An event forming part of the series "On Political Turmoil and Human Destiny" in cooperation with KAS Israel

"King" is the latest book by Polish author Szczepan Twardoch, a crime novel telling the story of Yakub Shapira, a Jewish gangster and professional boxer. The author takes his readers into the underworld of 1930s Warsaw and masterfully sketches the growing antisemitism in Polish society at the time. The conversation between Twardoch and journalist Michal Zamir will focus on the Jewish underworld in Poland, the author's extensive research for his book and his surprising choice of subject for this literary work. This event is part of the special "On Political Turmoil and Human Destiny" series and takes places during the Jerusalem Writers Festival.

Salaam Iran: Golnaz Hashemzadeh Bonde in Conversation with Liraz Charhi

An event forming part of the series "On Political Turmoil and Human Destiny" in cooperation with KAS Israel

Golnaz Hashemzadeh Bonde was born in Iran and fled to Sweden with her parents when she was a child. In her second novel, "What We Owe", she relates the story of Nahid, an Iranian woman fleeing her country in the wake of Khomeini's rise to power. Designated a "masterpiece" by The Times, this book has won multiple literary awards and was translated into 25 languages. The conversation between Hashemzadeh Bonde and Liraz Charhi will centre around refugees and immigration, the longing for the bygone Iran, the current situation in the country as well as the life of the author. This event is part of the special "On Political Turmoil and Human Destiny" series and takes places during the Jerusalem Writers Festival.

Shaping the future relations between Israel and Europe

The Second Annual Conference of Young Israeli Researchers in European Studies took place at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev on 29 and 30 May. Following the success of the first conference in 2012, the selection committee invited a larger number of Israeli students from different universities to present their researches on a wide range of subjects related to Europe. The two-day conference was organized by the Centre for the Study of European Politics and Society (CSEPS) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Israel.

Outcomes of an international workshop at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev

On May 7, 2013 - between Council of Europe’s and the EU’s “Europe Days” on May 5 and May 9, respectively - KAS Israel and the Centre for the Studies of European Politics and Society at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) organised an international workshop on the Jewish contribution to the European integration project. The issue was discussed in all its temporal dimensions - past, present and future. As a result, it became clear how much Europe and Israel are interrelated.

Observations of the political landscape of Israel indicate that in the long run the Israeli public opinion and the political decision-making process will be significantly influenced by political powers of the center and right of the center. However, this camp does not form a closed unit. It consists of political parties such as Kadima, Israel Beiteinu, Yesh Atid, HaTnua and HaBayit Yehudit. However, the Likud, the oldest and biggest party of the conservative spectrum, takes the center stage.

Study and Dialogue Program in Germany for Young Political Activists from Israel

A group of six Israeli young political activists and consultants, representing the Likud, Kadima and Yesh Atid parties, took part in a study program in Germany from April 14-20. The study program focused on the promotion of young politicians, the development of election campaigns, the tasks of different constitutional bodies, and the recent German history of the peaceful revolution and reunification.

Tenth meeting of the Israeli-Vatican Bilateral Commission in Jerusalem

Supported by KAS Israel, the Bilateral Commission dedicated the first day of its meeting (April 29) to celebrating the memory of Pope John XXIII on the 50th anniversary of his death, and the second day (April 30) to discussing the importance of educating their respective communities about the nature, substance and significance of the changes initiated by the declaration Nostra Aetate of the Second Vatican Council.

Presentation of the 2012 IWN Data Book

Following the joint publication of the 2012 Data Book “Women in Israel: Between Theory and Reality”, which covers wide areas and touches on almost every aspect of women’s lives in Israel, the Israel Women’s Network and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized a conference on April 18th, 2013 at Tel Aviv University to introduce to an audience of professionals, public and media representatives, data from selected chapters of the book and anylase them with the help of professional experts from other organizations and researchers who participated in gathering the data.

A promising start

KAS Israel, the EU, and their Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian partners came together on April 2, 2013 to welcome the launch of the newly funded EU project “Partners for Regional Leadership” (PRL) which will bring conflict resolution tools to the classroom in Jordan, the West Bank and Israel.
