Conflict in Sudan: An Invitation to a Dialogue Session

A KAS-MDC Forum for Intra-Regional Dialogue

Join us for an expert panel discussing the conflict in Sudan. This event, moderated by Sarah Awaidah, brings together Gal Lusky, the founder of Israeli Flying Aid (IFA), Dr. Haim Koren, former director of the Political Planning Division at Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Israeli ambassador to Egypt and South Sudan. They will be joined by Mekki El Mograbi press writer on African Affairs and former diplomat in Washington D.C.

The Jewish King of Warsaw: Szczepan Twardoch in conversation with Michal Zamir

An event forming part of the series "On Political Turmoil and Human Destiny" in cooperation with KAS Israel

"King" is the latest book by Polish author Szczepan Twardoch, a crime novel telling the story of Yakub Shapira, a Jewish gangster and professional boxer. The author takes his readers into the underworld of 1930s Warsaw and masterfully sketches the growing antisemitism in Polish society at the time. The conversation between Twardoch and journalist Michal Zamir will focus on the Jewish underworld in Poland, the author's extensive research for his book and his surprising choice of subject for this literary work. This event is part of the special "On Political Turmoil and Human Destiny" series and takes places during the Jerusalem Writers Festival.

Salaam Iran: Golnaz Hashemzadeh Bonde in Conversation with Liraz Charhi

An event forming part of the series "On Political Turmoil and Human Destiny" in cooperation with KAS Israel

Golnaz Hashemzadeh Bonde was born in Iran and fled to Sweden with her parents when she was a child. In her second novel, "What We Owe", she relates the story of Nahid, an Iranian woman fleeing her country in the wake of Khomeini's rise to power. Designated a "masterpiece" by The Times, this book has won multiple literary awards and was translated into 25 languages. The conversation between Hashemzadeh Bonde and Liraz Charhi will centre around refugees and immigration, the longing for the bygone Iran, the current situation in the country as well as the life of the author. This event is part of the special "On Political Turmoil and Human Destiny" series and takes places during the Jerusalem Writers Festival.

Left behind or Poor by choice?

The Working and the Poor Conference

Together with the Economics and Society Program at the Van Leer Institute, The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung hosted a conference on the "Working Poor". This growing phenomenon was discussed in the conference in depth from varying and contradicting perspectives. Possible solutions were presented by experts in the field and decision makers, including our keynote speaker Prof. Ronnie Schöb from the Freie Universität Berlin. While no clear cut answer was agreed upon, the conference brought up some very important issues regarding labor policy, education, wages and government responsibility.

Marking Twenty Years of Israeli-EU Scientific Cooperation

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in cooperation with The Center for the Study of European Politics and Society at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev marked last November twenty successful years of Israeli-EU scientific cooperation in a special conference which was held at the Mishkenot Sha’ananim Conference Center in Jerusalem.

Study Day for students

The study and information program was held in cooperation with The Centre for the Study of European Politics and Society and the participants were students of the Adenauer Division for the study of European Politics and Society and students of The Department of Politics and Government. The goal of the program was to explore the current EU role in the Middle East and especially to learn about the various activities of the EU and its member states in regards to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Europa und Israel: Ein Auseinanderleben können wir uns nicht leisten

Im Rahmen der Fachkonferenz „20 Jahre deutsch-israelische Wissenschaftskooperation“ konnte die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel den ehemaligen Ministerpräsidenten von Thüringen und Rheinland-Pfalz und Ehrenvorsitzenden der Stiftung, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel, zu einem Dialogprogramm vom 27. bis 30. November in Israel begrüßen. Neben den Wissenschaftsbeziehungen zwischen der EU und Israel, standen aktuelle politische Entwicklungen und Herausforderungen im Mittelpunkt der Gespräche mit u.a. dem deutschen Botschafter Dr. Clemens von Goetze und dem stellvertretenden Sprecher der Knesset, Hilik Bar.

YOCOPAS Conference 2016

YOUTH COLLABORATION OF PEACE AND SUSTAINABILITY

On October 26th-28th the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung hosted in cooperation with the Eastern Mediterranean International School (EMIS) the yearly Youth Collaboration of Peace and Sustainability Conference (YOCOPAS). The conference took place in HaKfar HaYarok and ten Israeli and Palestinian schools participated in it. The goal was “to enhance peace and sustainability in the middle east through networking of local and international students and educators as an accelerator for change”.

Die Delegation aus Israel besuchte vom 13. bis 17.12.2016 Berlin. Während ihres Aufenthaltes führte die Delegation Gespräche mit dem Bundestagspräsidenten, Herrn Prof. Dr. Lammert, MdB sowie weiteren hochrangigen Vertretern aus Politik, Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft.

Launch of the Kollek-Adenauer Program

Kooperation mit dem Jerusalem Insitute for Policy Research

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel launched on November 30th the joint Kollek-Adenauer-Program in cooperation with the Jerusalem Institute for Policy Research. The program intends to bring together experts of Jerusalem from different sectors such as academics, urban planners, municipality worker and representatives of local civil society to examine the viability of shared spheres for Jews and Arabs in the city.

International Carbon Markets

KAS Israel organized a workshop discussing the implications of Article 6 of the Paris Climate Convention for international markets in general and Israel in particular. The meeting took place in the KAS Jerusalem office on the 26th of September. In the framework of the workshop Israeli and German experts discussed the following agenda items: The Evolution of Article 6 - Cooperative Approaches - Transfers of Mitigation Outcomes – Exchange of Carbon Units - Development of Standards and Guidelines - Accounting Rules - Carbon Pricing - Implications for Israel.

Young Muslim Leaders-Delegation 2016

Nach dem mehr als erfolgreichen Pilotprojekt im vergangenen Jahr führte die KAS Israel im September das Dialogprogramm für junge Führungskräfte muslimischen Hintergrunds aus Deutschland fort. Anhand eines fünftägigen Intensivprogramms vernetzten sich die Teilnehmer mit israelischen Entscheidungsträgern aus Politik, Religion, Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft und machten sich mit diversen Facetten des Landes vertraut.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel in cooperation with the Geneva Initiative hosted a seminar in Italy for young Palestinian and Israeli leaders and journalists to discuss the current situation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its consequences.
