Al-Quds Center for Political Studies in cooperation with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung published the book entitled "Democracy in the Practice of the Arab Political Parties".The book consists of papers of a regional workshop organized by Al-Quds Center for Political Studies in cooperation with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung on June 13, 2009 under the title: "Democracy in the Practice of the Arab Political Parties" with 62 participants. Among them are activists, academics, party leaders and consultants from six countries: Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Syria & Germany.

As part of its activities in the area of cultural and religious dialogue the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Office in Amman (KAS) jointly organized with its cooperation partner, the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace (LFPCP) a conference entitled “Religious Pluralism in Lebanon and the Arab World: History, Mutations, and Action Prospects”. The conference took place in the Faculty of Religious Studies at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon, on October 24 and 25, 2009.

Die Parlamentswahlen im Libanon im Juni 2009 standen weit vorne im Blickpunkt der Weltöffentlichkeit. Dies lag vor allem daran, dass allgemein eine Stärkung der schiitischen Hizbullah-Miliz erwartetet wurde. Obwohl die dezidiert antiisraelische Hizbullah alle angestrebten Sitze im neuen libanesischen Parlament erringen konnte, ist diese Stärkung ausgeblieben. Die Verbündeten der Hizbullah konnten aus den Wahlen nicht so stark hervorgehen, wie von vielen erwartet oder befürchtet.

Die Armenier im Libanon und ihre politische Rolle

Wie die meisten Volks- und Religionsgruppen im Libanon wählten auch die Armenier bei den Parlamentswahlen am 7. Juni gespalten. Während Teile von ihnen die prowestlichen Kräfte der Zedernrevolution unterstützten, schlossen sich andere der von der Hizbullah geführten Oppositionskoalition an. Aller Differenzen zum Trotz bilden die Armenier, die auf der Flucht vor dem türkischen Völkermord Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts im Zedernstaat sesshaft wurden, einen erheblichen Machtfaktor, der immer wieder als Zünglein an der Waage über politischen Erfolg und Misserfolg entscheiden kann.

König Abdullah II. ernennt seinen ältesten Sohn zum Kronprinzen

Der jordanische König Abdullah II. bin al-Hussein hat in einem königlichen Dekret seinen 15-jährigen Sohn, Prinz Hussein bin al-Abdullah, offiziell zu seinem Thronfolger ernannt. Damit beendete der Monarch viereinhalb Jahre ohne Kronprinzen. Beobachter sehen in der Entscheidung vor allem den Ausdruck politischen Selbstbewusstseins des mit 47 Jahren noch recht jungen Monarchen.
