Dealing with Crises and Shaping the Future

The Middle East conflict is currently going through another wave of violent escalation. This comes against the background of new dynamics in the Middle East, including recent rapprochements among several regional actors. At the same time, unresolved conflicts, like the ones related to Palestine or Syria, continue to prevent lasting stability. In addition, the global geopolitical landscape is changing with potential repercussions on both the Middle East and Europe. Considering these developments, continued and frank dialogue between Jordan and Germany is of special importance. Both countries share a history of seventy years of cooperation and have been trusted political partners. How can Amman and Berlin work together to de-escalate regional conflicts and shape a more peaceful future? How can both countries best exploit the potential of cooperation in fields of mutual interests, such as energy or skilled labor? How do Jordan and Germany define their position in the emerging new regional and global order and how could that affect their bilateral relations?

Towards a Safe Maritime Security Zone in the Red Sea, Gulfs of Aden and Oman

Konrad Adenauer Foundation-Jordan Office and their partner, the Arab Institute for Security Studies (ACSIS), jointly organized a conference titled, "Towards a Safe Maritime Security Zone in the Red Sea, Gulfs of Aden and Oman". The conference brought together diplomats, political analysts, experts and delegates from both Jordan and abroad in order to discuss the importance of this maritime region in trade, transport/shipping, combatting piracy and terrorism and the necessity of cooperation and emphasizing regional dialogue on maritime security between key actors and countries.

Party Youth Training – Democracy and Diversity

KAS-Jordan Office, in cooperation with Al-Quds Center for Political Studies, held a two-day training retreat for the Youth of Jordanian political parties in Wadi-Finan among the mountains of the Dana Biosphere Reserve. The training workshop was on Saturday and Sunday, September 4th - 5th entitled "Rules of the democratic process: Is democracy a ballot box or a comprehensive cultural, rights-based and political system?" More than twenty young women and men attended the workshop representing twelve Jordanian parties.

Political Party Capacity Building

Workshop 1

The first workshop under the project, "Political Party Capacity Building" jointly organized with Al-Quds Center for Political Studies, commenced last Saturday and included a number of speakers from centrist political parties. The first workshop assessed the experience of centrist parties in the 2020 Jordanian parliamentary elections and the important lessons drawn from this experience for future elections.

High-ranking international and Jordanian experts, researchers, officials, decision-makers and former Jordanian ministers were all invited to participate in the third annual conference, partnered with Al-Quds Centre for Political Studies, titled, ‘Jordan in a Changing Regional and International Environment-The Upcoming Scenarios”. This is to share their expert opinions, and analysis on the current political events taking place in the region, and how it directly (and indirectly) affects Jordan. This conference intended to address the changing regional and international environment through a Jordanian lens, and how these changing regional dynamics will impact Jordan in the future. It took place in Amman in February 2020.
