False information about scholarships of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung

Dear applicants for scholarships of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. Currently there are circulating on the internet various offers of services for obtaining scholarships from the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation, often at considerable costs. Some websites are using the logo of the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation without authorization.

Die Wahlen in Kenia sind vorbei. Zwar laufen noch gerichtliche Anfechtungen einiger Gouverneurswahlen, doch die Wahlergebnisse sind bekannt und bestätigt. Trotzdem ist bisher keine Ruhe eingekehrt: Die Opposition um Raila Odinga erkennt die Wahl Uhuru Kenyattas weiterhin nicht an; am 30. Januar ließ sich Raila Odinga als parallelen Präsidenten Kenias vereidigen.

KAS AND KEWOPA PARTNERSHIP IN INDUCTION WORKSHOP FOR FEMALE LEGISLATORS

KAS in partnership with Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) facilitated an induction workshop of Kenyan women Members of Parliament and women representatives held in Naivasha on 11th to 14th January 2018. Other partners included UN Women, USAID Kenya, Kenya Human Rights Commission and Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA). The induction workshop centered on effective women legislation including the opportunities and challenges encountered therein. Election of new officials for KEWOPA and 11th Parliament lessons for women representation were among the agenda items discussed.

Community Score Card on livelihood development, infrastructure and security in West Pokot and Baringo Counties of Kenya

KAS,Kenya engagement in the area of food security and DRR is informed by an emerging necessity to support the County Governments of Baringo and West Pokot to engage in political processes that can provide more integrated planning and long term solutions to the challenges of food insecurities. KAS carried out the Community Score Card exercise in the two counties in order to empower the communities in using social accountability tools to hold respective government institutions to account, as well as working with the same institutions to improve on their efficiency in delivering services.

Creating awareness for communities to lobbying National and County Governments to adopt problematic regulations in West

Series of county level trainings on land laws and their applications in the area of food security and DRR have been done in the recent past by KAS and other partners targeting the government and non-governmental actors in the two counties. Nonetheless, the need to amplify these trainings at the community level has emerged as an important step in wide spreading public awareness on emerging issues. On a different note, community training approach is becoming more useful in connecting lobbying and advocacy efforts at the county level with practical evidences at the community level.

Reporting on Kenyan General Election 2017: A month to the polls

The 2017 General election will be the 11th general election in Kenya since its independence in 1963.Previous elections in Kenya have taken place in 1963, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1983, 1988, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2013.The election in 2013 was the first since the country-wide violence that took place in Kenya after the 2007 election. It was also the first election since the new constitution was adopted. The upcoming general election to be conducted on 8th August 2017 will be the 2nd election under the Kenyan constitution 2010.

Politischer Islam in Kenia und Tansania

Die Ausbreitung des Islam in Ostafrika geht bis ins 13. Jahrhundert zurück. Seitdem leben Moslems, Christen und anderen Religionen in dieser Region eng zusammen. Durch externe und interne Faktoren, aber auch durch Einflussnahme der Staaten auf die Religion ist in den letzten Jahren das weitgehend friedliche Miteinander immer stärker unter Druck geraten. Erste Ergebnisse einer Radikalisierung sind sichtbar und sowohl Anschläge in Kenia wie auch die angespannte Lage auf Sansibar zeigen, dass der Islam in Teilen Ostafrikas zusehends von radikalen Kräften instrumentalisiert wird.
