The Research Institute for National Security Affairs(RINSA) and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung(KAS) Korea jointly organize an international conference under the topic of "Alliances in Europe and Asia". This annual conference hosted by the two institutions(RINSA & KAS), which celebrates its 9th year, has provided a meaningful platform for discussion to understand main trends in global security and discuss in depth common security concerns of Asia and Europe by inviting prominent scholars and experts from the Republic of Korea and Germany.

This year’s conference will examine first a security landscape and threat perceptions that have become increasingly uncertain and unpredictable from a perspective of Asia and Europe. Furthermore, it aims to analyze Trump’s alliance policy under the banner of ‘America first’ and discuss questions of how to deal with different alliance issues like a defense burden-sharing by focusing on the ROK-US Alliance and NATO. This years conference is once again more timely, considering that negotiations on North Korea’s denuclearization are in progress.
