The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a German political foundation, closely associated with the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU).

 

With regard to European and international cooperation efforts, KAS works for people to be able to live self-determined lives in freedom and dignity. Underpinned by those values, the foundation is making a contribution to help Germany to meet its growing responsibilities in the world.

 

With more than 80 offices abroad and projects in more than 120 countries, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung makes a unique contribution to the promotion of democracy, dialogue, conflict prevention, civil society and social market economy.

 

The mission of the Country Programme Lebanon is to:

 

• Inform about relevant political, economic and social issues and offer platforms for exchange and constructive debate

 

• Contribute to the political, economic and social development in Lebanon

 

• Promote knowledge about the functioning of political institutions and processes

 

• Support the political forces of moderation and progress

 

• Strengthen the Lebanese Republic as a democratic and pluralistic state through its institutions

 

• Foster bilateral relations between Germany and Lebanon.

 

To achieve this, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung works together with a multitude of local partners such as governmental institutions, political parties, think tanks, civil society associations, media, and organisations of the private sector as well as universities and scientific institutions.

 

The Country Programme Lebanon engages in several activities for its mission and aims. These activities take among others the form of conferences, seminars, workshops, and forums for dialogue to debates or round tables. Further, it issues publications and studies and engages with policy makers.

 

The main objectives of the Country Programme Lebanon are:

 

Overall goal 1: Political actors, civil society and the media are motivated and empowered to work for good governance as well as participatory and inclusive societies in the Middle East and North Africa.

 

Objective 1.1: Internal reforms, including political opening-up processes, generational changes and the refining of party programs, will be gradually implemented by decision-makers in the political middle.

 

Objective 1.2: On the basis of their commitment to an inclusive claim to representation and to cooperation among themselves, the forces of the political middle, particularly civil society, the media and state actors, strengthen their jointly formulated positions.

 

Overall goal 2: Elements of the social market economy which are oriented towards sustainability and innovation influence the public and economic policy discourse and contribute to socio-economic development.

 

Objective 2.1: Lebanese and international representatives from politics, state institutions and the economic and financial sector jointly develop concepts for poverty reduction as well as for the reconstruction of the national economy and financial system.

 

Objective 2.2: The participatory, macro-social discourse on sustainable entrepreneurial and investment-friendly reforms and on the reorientation of the Lebanese economic and financial model is strengthened.

 

Overall goal 3: Dialogue and cooperation within the region and with external actors contribute to the creation of sustainable structures for peace and security and increase the German and European ability to shape the future.

 

Objective 3.1: The dialogue on common interest and objectives in regional conflicts, energy and migration issues and economic cooperation between academics, political decision-makers and representatives from the private sector from Lebanon, the region, Europe and Germany is being strengthened.

 

Objective 3.2: The partnership-based dialogue on joint matters between German, European, international and Lebanese decision-makers, elected officials and interest groups is being intensified.

 

How to Apply:

Proposal applications are open all year round. The proposed measure and project should fall under the general requirements and objectives of the Country Programme. In order to apply, the applicant organization should fill in the following templates (found on the right sidebar)

  • Project Proposal Form
  • Organizational Profile Form

Complete applications must include the application form (Project Proposal Form) with the supported document (Organizational Profile Form) and should be sent to info.beirut@kas.de in order for the proposal to be considered for the following year of the application's timing. 

 

Incomplete files will unfortunately not be considered. Late applications may be kept for the following year's proposal application process.
