Enhancing writing skills of local NGO researchers, public administration employees and analysts - Foundation Office Lebanon
This project aimed to address urgent gaps in Lebanon’s local knowledge production sector. This sector as a whole typically relies on foreign experts who interpret the findings of local sources to create influential analysis and reports. The resulting analysis does not necessarily reflect the ways that local actors may frame or evaluate the dynamics occurring within their country’s borders.
The workshop supported local, young analysts, researchers, and journalists to become important voices shaping the region’s future permitting them thus to reach the next stage of their professional development in reporting, activism, or academia. It delivered a comprehensive training in producing written work and marketing it for a targeted audience. Core skills taught in the four days included writing and editing process, frame, structure, and analysis development and refined self-promotion techniques (including communication via social media).
Given the positive feedback from the participants and the perceived success of the curriculum, SYNAPS and KAS hope to use this masterclass as a launching point towards becoming a ‘writing hub’ in Beirut.
