Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir warns of the impacts of a trade war between the superpowers

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir is warning of the impacts of a trade war between the US and China on Southeast Asia. "The US-China mega trade war may be a symptom of something far worse – growing rivalry between the world's two biggest powers developing into another Cold War." Malaysia depends on both the US and Chinese markets and for geopolitical reasons is caught in between. One way to overcome the hurdle is to build capacity and to develop competitiveness, particularly among ASEAN neighbours, to cushion the impact of the collision of superpowers. Tun Dr. Mahathir said this in his keynote address at the Institute of Strategic & International Studies Malaysia’s Praxis conference 2019 themed “Malaysia beyond 2020” on October 21 in Kuala Lumpur. KAS has been cooperating with ISIS Malaysia for several years, on the annual “Malaysia-Germany Security Dialogue”, and is now supporting the “ISIS Praxis Conference” series.
