This seminar was the first of the KAS's annual programmes for media managers from Southern and East Africa. Held in Mauritius, the programme brought together senior editors, media owners and managers from African countries to focus on indigenous strategies for maintaining and growing sustainable media - for purposes of pluralism and democracy.

The object of the annual media management seminars is to encourage South-South media exchange and dialog as an alternative to North-South media exchanges due to the gulf between the human resource, media freedom, cultural, political and economic milieus between Europe and America and African media.
