Media Programme Asia selects fellows for master programme in journalism on the Philippines - Media Programme Asia

The KAS Media Programme Asia spent two busy days at its institutional partner, the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism (ACFJ), in Manila. Every year, the Media Programme Asia awards fellowships to working journalists from the region for the MA Journalism programme at the ACFJ. Both partners screened and evaluated applications from potential fellowship holders. Afterwards, the members of the screening committee interviewed the most promising ones online. On the second day, the management board meeting of ACFJ met to discuss the development of the center.
Torben Stephan, Director of the Media Programme Asia, used the remaining time to train journalists of the English-language newspaper Philippine Daily Inquirer. During the workshop they learned how to use the online editorial system of Asia News Network (ANN). Now, also the Filipino partner of ANN is able to spread national news via the network throughout Asia. Due to the upcoming elections in the Philippines in May, their news are of particular interest to the region.
Furthermore, the Media Programme used the opportunity of being on campus of the Ateneo University and meeting various students to continue its interview series “Walk the Talk”. Starting with students from Singapore, it’s now the Filipino students who shared their opinion what role politics play in their life and how they deal with it.
