Chances and opportunities of the G7 InsuResilience initiative

The Multinational Development Policy Dialogue of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organised together with Bread for the World and the EPP group in the European Parliament the expert lunch discussion: “Financing climate induced loss & damage - Chances and opportunities of the G7 InsuResilience initiative” on 30th of May 2017 in Brussels. The report gives an overview of the discussed topics and results of the debate.

Green Urban Development Prospects in Africa

From 26th to 27th of April a delegation of African parliamentarians and city mayors visited Brussels in occasion of their one-week study tour to Europe, organized by Dr. Oliver Ruppel, Director of the KAS Regional Programme for Sub Saharan Africa. At an evening event, organized by the MNED Brussels, the participants discussed with Jens Gieseke, MEP and Diederick Zambon, Head of the Public Sector Sub-Saharan Africa of the European Investment Bank, on "Green Urban Development Prospects in Africa". This report gives a summary of the respective topics discussed on the event.

The Multinational Development Policy Dialogue of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung had the pleasure to organize the expert conference: “Ahead of the Africa-EU Summit. Setting the Course for a Sustainable Partnership” on April 11th 2017 in Brussels. The event aimed at exploring new avenues for cooperation and partnership in the extraordinary context of the upcoming G20 Summit and the Africa-EU Summit this year. The report gives an overview of the discussed topics and results of the high-level event.

Water as warrantor for stability

The water-security-nexus in the Middle East

Water, energy and stability are inextricably linked to one another. Water is mandatory in the processes of production, distribution and use of energy. Energy is necessary for the extraction, desalination and distribution of safe drinking water. Access to clean water can therefore be a warrantor for regional stability. This essential relationship of water and stability is a topic of increasing importance. The main objective of the report is to sum up the discussion´s outcomes regarding water as guarantor for regional stability and the water-security-nexus in the Middle East.

What to expect from future US and Chinese climate policy?

On 06 December 2016 the Multinational Development Policy Dialogue of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung organized a political dinner debate, which was hosted by Isaac Valero Ladrón from the cabinet of Miguel Arias Cañete. International climate policy experts discussed about possible consequences of current political developments in the context of the negotiations with regards to the implementation of the Paris Agreement in Marrakesh (COP22) and future US and Chinese climate policies. The report gives a summary of the statements given by the participating experts.

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goal on energy in developing countries

What role for the EU?

This report summarizes the main findings of the seminar "Achieving the Sustainable Development Goal on energy in developing countries - What role for the EU?" and delivers concrete policy recommendations. The seminar had gathered international experts from several global and European institutions engaging in the process of achieving the SDG on energy. Its main objective was to explain the state of play, the prospects, challenges and opportunities of implementing SDG7 in a way that is consistent with climate objectives.

Land Degradation, Climate Change and Migration

Challenges for the EU and Africa

This report gives a summary of the debate about the nexus land degradation, climate change and migration in the European and West African context, held in the European Parliament among high-ranking officials from international institutions and the European Commission. Amongst others, Mrs. Barbut, Executive Secretary of the UNCCD, H.E. Mr. Hemou, Ambassador of ECOWAS to the EU, and Mr. Calleja Crespo, Director-General of DG ENV, gave insights into the current policy field and upcoming challenges.
