Conference on the Rule of Law in the Palestinian Territories

The ongoing political separation between Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Fatah in the West Bank has significant institutional impacts and is directly affecting the constitutional system in the Palestinian Territories. In consideration of the current political approach between the two parties and the formation of a unity government, this topic has come to the fore again and gave reason to a one-day conference co-organised by the KAS Ramallah.

Am 22. März besuchten der Ministerpräsident von Sachsen-Anhalt, Dr. Reiner Haseloff, und eine 25-köpfige Delegation mitreisender Wirtschaftsvertreter und Journalisten das Westjordanland.

Vom 29. Januar bis zum 5. Februar besuchten 25 Mitglieder der Jungen Union Nordrhein-Westfalen das Heilige Land. Auf ihrer Reise wurden sie durch die Kollegen der KAS in Ramallah und Jerusalem begleitet. Hierbei absolvierte die Delegation ein umfangreiches Programm in Israel und den Palästinensischen Gebieten und traf mit Politikern, jungen Entscheidungsträgern und religiösen Führungspersönlichkeiten zusammen.

Precarious Situation in the Jordan Valley

The Jordan valley has recently received increased international attention within the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations. As both sides claim the control over the area, Palestinians consider it as an integral part of their state territory whereas the Israeli government refuses to hand over its military presence at the border to Jordan. Together with the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICADH), the team of KAS Ramallah was able to obtain an overview of the living conditions of Palestinians in the Jordan valley during a one-day-tour.

Legal Encounter with Prof. Irene Schneider, Göttingen University

On 13 November 2013, the Institute of Law at Birzeit University organised a legal encounter on The Discourse about the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in the Islamic Republic of Iran: Voices of Female Jurists. The presentation was made by Irene Schneider, Professor for Arabic Studies and Islamic Law at the University of Göttingen, Germany.
