Graduation of Public Sector Employees in Bethlehem

On April 20th 2012 the Institute for Community Partnership (ICP) celebrated the graduation of a new group of Professional Diploma graduates. The ICP’s Diploma Program in Public Administration is offered by Bethlehem University in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in Ramallah. Its aim is to offer public sector employees to develop in the area of management and administration and therefore assisting the Palestinian public institutions in functioning efficiently and effectively. Administrative capacity building is an important prerequisite for good governance.

Im Rahmen einer von den KAS-Büros in Jerusalem und Ramallah gemeinsam organisierten mehrtägigen Informationsreise durch Israel und die Palästinensischen Gebiete besuchte der Kardinal-Höffner-Kreis am 19. April 2012 die Stadt Bethlehem. Dabei handelt es sich um einen Zusammenschluss mehrheitlich katholischer Bundestagsabgeordneter der CDU/CSU-Bundestagsfraktion. Das Ziel des Besuches in und um Bethlehem war es, sich ein eigenes Bild über die derzeitige politische Lage sowie das Leben der palästinensischen Christen zu machen.

Großes Erstaunen über die Lage im Norden des Westjordanlandes

Im Rahmen einer mehrtägigen Informationsreise durch Israel und die Palästinensischen Gebiete besuchten mehr als 30 Mitglieder der Thomas-Morus-Akademie, einer katholischen Bildungsstätte aus Bensberg, am 18. April 2012 die Stadt Jenin im hügeligen Norden des Westjordanlandes. Das Ziel des Besuches war es, sich ein eigenes Bild über die derzeitige politische Lage sowie das alltägliche Leben der in und um Jenin lebenden Palästinenser zu machen.

Palestinians oppose returning to negotiations unconditionally

Chances for resuming talks between Israelis and Palestinians look slim at this point. A majority of Palestinians opposes the return to talks without fulfilling certain conditions. Large majorities of both Israelis (73%) and Palestinians (85%) think that if Israel were to carry out a military strike against Iran a big regional war will erupt.

CONFERENCE ON RENEWABLE ENERGY INVESTMENT

On Tuesday, 20 March 2012, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ramallah invited to a conference on renewable energy investment in the Palestinian territories. The event was organized in cooperation with the Palestinian Energy and Environment Research Center (PEC)/the Palestinian Energy Authority (PEA), and took place at the Mövenpick Hotel in Ramallah. It provided a forum for Palestinian and international experts on renewable energy and private sector making the conference one of the few of its kind.
