The Arab Spring: Regional Developments. Impacts on Palestine and Israel

On October 27, 2011, the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information (IPCRI) in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ramallah held a conference on the Arab Spring, the regional developments since and the impact on Palestine and Israel at the Ambassador Hotel, Jerusalem. More than 100 Israeli and Palestinian participants from politics, academics and the media, as well as representatives of Jerusalem-based international organizations, listened to the contributions of the panelists.

Migration to Europe: between economics and politics

On Thursday, the 20th of October, a lecture entitled “Migration to Europe” was being held by Professor Phillippe Fargues, director of the Euro-Mediterranean Consortium for Applied Research on International Migration (CARIM) in Fiesole, Italy. The lecture is part of the syllabus „THE EUROPEAN UNION: UNIQUE PHENOMENON OR RELEVANT MODEL?“ instructed by professor Roger Heacock, within the course „International Studies“. The syllabus is a collaboration between the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute for International Studies (IALIIS) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Ramallah.

The Quest for Palestine Statehood: Legal, Political and Economic Implications

On October 25th, 2011, the Birzeit University’s Institute of Law (IoL) in cooperation with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) organized the International Conference on “The Quest for Palestine Statehood” in terms of legal, political and economic implications. Prestigious scientists from various fields of expertise explored a range of possible approaches and processes required to build and proclaim the State of Palestine.

The Palestine media and the „agreement“ between Fatah and Hamas

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ramallah and MIFTAH have been collaborating in improving the media since 2010. The common project „Promoting Good Governance through Empowering Media Students: A Critical Reading of Print Media“ was being initiated through the creation of a media observing analyst group. On this topic, journalism students are being offered practical lectures, workshops and trainings concerning responsible reporting and helping the students to critically receive the media.

Exchange through Literature

On October 10, 2011 a meeting of the Jerusalem Book Club took place with the support of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ramallah. The Book Club is a joint project of the Schmidt´s Girls College in East Jerusalem and the Academy of Music and Dance in West Jerusalem. It has the theme “Reading is Understanding”.

“Case Law on Labor Law: article (41)”

Birzeit Legal Encounter

The Institute of Law in Birzeit University organized, with support from Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, a legal encounter on “Case Law on Labor Law: article (41)”, on 28 September 2011 with contribution of His Honor, Judge Fawaz Attiyah, President of Jericho District Court, with the presence of a large number of representatives of the private sector institutions and the Palestinian Ministry of Labor in addition to a number of attorneys.

The Institute of Law - Birzeit University, in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, organized a legal encounter on “The Individual and Collective Contract in the Palestinian Labor Law”. The encounter took place on 19 September 2001 and was attended by Mr. Karem Nashwan, Director of Center for Democracy and Workers’ Rights.
