Labor Jurisdiction

The Institute of Law organized on Wednesday, 8 June 2011 at Birzeit University a legal encounter with funding from Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. Judge Raed Asfour and Mr. Abdelkarim Daraghma, Director General of the Directorate of Labour Inspection and Work Safety at the Ministry of Labour, participated in this meeting, which was attended by representatives of a number of interested governmental and nongovernmental organizations.

A delegation of volunteers of Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste (ASF) visited the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAS) Ramallah on June 8th, 2011. The 32-strong delegation was headed by Katharina von Münster, the representative of ASF in Israel.

The Israeli Peace Initiative

In cooperation with IPCRI, KAS Ramallah organized the presentation of the Israeli Peace Initiative (IPI) on May 11th, 2011. This initiative, drafted by an eclectic group of (former) politicians, civil society representatives, defence chiefs as well as artists, considers itself as an answer to the Arab Peace Initiative (API) of 2002, which it explicitly accepts as a framework for negotiations. After being presented to the Palestinian Authority (PA) on April 29th, the IPI was now made public to a greater audience.

Legal Encounter

The New Developments of Constitutional Review in France and the Palestinian Territories

On April 27th 2011, the interested public was once more invited to a lecture that was part of the “Legal Encounter” series organized jointly by the Institute of Law (IoL) at Birzeit University and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ramallah. Dr. Ali Khashan, Palestinian Minister for Justice, Pierre Joxe, former Minister of the Interior and Defense in France, and Eric Milliard, Professor of Legal Theory and Public Law, at Paris Ouest - Nanterre La Défense, spoke about the differences and similarities between constitutional review and its developments in France and the Palestinian Territories.
