Juli verkündete der Ständige Schiedshof in Den Haag seine Entscheidung: Im von den Philippinen initiierten Schiedsverfahren gegen die Volksrepublik China gab das Tribunal bekannt, dass Chinas Gebietsansprüche im Südchinesischen Meer nicht durch die sogenannte „9-Strich-Linie“ gerechtfertigt seien.

Die „älteste Demokratie Asiens“ hat am 9. Mai einen neuen Präsidenten gewählt. Rodrigo Duterte, langjähriger Bürgermeister der Großstadt Davao im Süden des Landes, wird am 30.06 sein Amt antreten und Benigno Aquino III beerben. Bei der Wahl zum Vizepräsidenten liefern sich Leni Robredo und Bongbong Marcos ein Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen.

However, creating better and sustainable living conditions in the Philippines is far more important for people to have an alternative to migration.
