Fourth Training - MENA Leadership Academy – Generation 4

Political and Civil Society Engagement of Young Actors in Europe

Between 21 and 25 August 2023, KAS PolDiMed will organize the fourth training of MENA Leadership Academy (generation 4) in Berlin, Germany, which will shed light on the political mosaic of Germany’s democratic eco system and its impact on youth participation in public life. The training will also examine the similarities and differences between both shores of the Mediterranean sea in terms of youth engagement in the political and social life.

German Foreign Policy: Pillars and Shifts

The Regional Program Political Dialogue South Mediterranean of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS PolDiMed) is organizing a summer school on the "German Foreign Policy in a Changing World", on 27-30 July, in Tunis, Tunisia. The two-day training sessions will bring together a group of young leaders from the South Mediterranean region to discuss the principles and changes of the German foreign policy and examine the new dynamics and regional alliances in the region.

Dialogue Program for a German MP Delegation

The Regional Programme Political Dialogue South Mediterranean of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS PolDiMed) will be welcoming a delegation of German MPs from July 9 to July 12, 2023 in Tunis, Tunisia. KAS PolDiMed is planning meetings over two days with relevant stakeholders for the purpose of discussing the situation of irregular migration towards the Mediterranean.

The Dynamics of Migration in the Maghreb-Sahel Region: new tendencies, new challenges and regional responses

KAS PolDiMed and the Regional Program for the Sahel of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung are organizing a conference on the ''Migration Dynamics in the Maghreb-Sahel region", on 22-23 June, in Rabat. This conference will bring together leading experts and practitioners to discuss, essentially, the recent trends in irregular migration and evaluate the migration policies in the Maghreb-Sahel countries along with their cooperation on migration-related issues with the EU.

Third Training - MENA Leadership Academy – Generation 4

Capacity Building Training on Debate, Public Policy, and Democracy

Between 15 and 19 March, 2023, KAS PolDiMed will organize the third training of MENA Leadership Academy program (Generation 4) in Rabat, Morocco. Building on the outcomes of the previous editions, this round of capacity-building training, both theoretical and practical oriented, will aim specifically to train the MENA LA fellows on how to (1) be more persuasive using debate and critical thinking skills, (2) write policy papers, and (3) best apply democracy.

Discussion Event of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung at the Munich Security Conference

On February 17, 2023, the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) hosted for the first time a roundtable discussion at the MSC premises in the Bayerischer Hof as part of the Munich Security Conference (MSC). The invitation of the KAS Chairman, former Bundestag President Professor Norbert Lammert, to an evening event on the topic "A New Club Méditerranée? The Eastern Mediterranean from Rivalry to Rapprochement" was accepted by high-ranking decision makers from politics, military, diplomacy and think tanks from Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel and Egypt as well as from numerous European states.

Food Security and Geopolitics in the Southern Mediterranean

Prospects and Challenges for 2023

On 19 December 2022, KAS PolDiMed organized two panel discussions in Tunis on two burning subjects that have been invading the public and political spheres in the Southern Mediterranean region. The event, “Food Security and Geopolitics in the Southern Mediterranean - Prospects and Challenges for 2023”, was attended by civil society actors, politicians and academia from Tunis and international envoys who reaffirmed their interest in the topics discussed and learned about the recent developments in the questions brought up.

Local voices towards permanent dialogue in the Mediterranean

Local authorities acting for agrifood and energy resilience

On the 5th and 6th of December 2022, the Political Dialogue South Mediterranean of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in cooperation with the Barcelona-based institute MedCities co-organized a round-table in Hammamet entitled « Local authorities acting for agrifood and energy resilience ». The event managed to bring together mayors, experts, and local actors from across the Mediterranean to discuss the current and most pressing challenges faced by Mediterranean municipalities in terms of food, water, and energy security.

Social Dynamics in Libya and the Importance of the Tribal Factor

On 28 November 2022, the Regional Programme Political Dialogue South Mediterranean of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS PolDiMed) in cooperation with the Madrid-based think tank Stractegia, co-organized an expert workshop in Tunis entitled: “Social Dynamics in Libya and the Importance of the Tribal Factor”. The event successfully managed to bring together influential actors in Libya namely, academics, civil society actors, functionaries, and tribal leaders who discussed the role played by tribes in the sociopolitical Libyan dynamics

Rethinking Youth Political Activism in the MENA Region

Second Training of MENA Leadership Academy - Generation 4

Between 7 and 11 November 2022, KAS PolDiMed organized the second training of MENA LA 4 in Istanbul, Turkey. The training aimed to increase the knowledge of the participants about citizen participation and inclusive governance to encourage more participation in the civic and political life.

Between 2 and 5 November 2022, KAS PolDiMed invited the Executive Board members of the European Democrat Students (EDS) association to discuss the current developments in the South Mediterranean region and the Euro-Med relations. The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Patrick Voller, Foreign Policy Advisor of the European People ́s Party.

The European Union and the Maghreb Region: Challenges, Issues and Prospects for Future Cooperation

Between 16th and 26th October 2022, the European Academy Otzenhausen (EAO), in cooperation with KAS PolDiMed, organized a seminar on ‘The European Union and the Maghreb Region: Challenges, Issues and Prospects for Future Cooperation’. Based of a number of well-designed lectures, discussions, workshops, and field visits, the seminar brought together 17 brilliant participants, both students and young professionals, from Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia, to develop a better undrstanding on the EU institutions and the EU-Maghreb relations.

On 24 and 25 October 2022, the Regional Programme Political Dialogue South Mediterranean of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS PolDiMed) and the Rome Office of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), co-organized an expert workshop in Tunis entitled: “Sahel-North Africa-Europe. Security, Migration, Energy and Food: The Vertical Pathway of Instability across the Broader Mediterranean”.

The Mediterranean Women Digital Summit 2022

On 26-27 September, 2022, the Regional Programme Political Dialogue South Mediterranean of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS PolDiMed) organized the fifth edition of the Mediterranean Women Digital Summit (MWDS22). Held for the first time in Amman, Jordan, the summit explored the trends and patterns of female founded and/ or led startups funding, policies and practices to support a stronger and better funding of women-led startups in the South Mediterranean region. The summit also offered B2B networking connecting early-stage women startups with business angels and seed investors.
