Needless to say that climate change and energy security belong to the most challenging and pressing issues of today´s world. For several decades, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has been supporting the training of journalists in Asia to contribute to an open and critical reporting.
Professional and well-engaged media are a key for civic engagement in society. This is particularly true when it comes to combatting the causes of climate change, adaptation or the change in energy supply. Especially local media should trigger a debate on the challenges and the opportunities to restrict global warming by changing the current patterns of production and consumption.
Set in this context RECAP has conducted a several days training seminar for Cambodian journalists in September 2016. During the seminar, national and international practitioners has introduced concepts, tools and techniques to report on climate change and energy security. To apply these new knowledge each participant, together with an experienced journalist, has conducted field studies on related topics and has written a report.
Three stories on climate change will be presented at Meta House, among them the topic of public transport, plastic bags and green buildings. After the presentation, a panel discussion on the role of media in coping with climate change and energy security will take place. On the panel will be H.E. Khieu Kanharith, the Minister of Information, and renowned media and climate change experts as well as journalists.
