Bilanz und Perspektiven der Zusammenarbeit im Sahel

G5 Sahel: KAS unterstützt Dialog in Westafrika

Die Regierungen der Sahelstaaten stehen vor immensen Herausforderungen. Terrorismus und grenzüberschreitende Kriminalität sind in der Region weitverbreitet. Die Staaten der G5 Sahel Staatengruppe (Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauretanien, Niger und Tschad) zählen zu den ärmsten Ländern der Welt. Seit der Gründung der G5 Sahel 2014 wird versucht, Ressourcen zu bündeln, sowohl im Kampf gegen Terror und organisierte Kriminalität als auch für die Realisierung dringend benötigter Entwicklungsprojekte.

Das Regionalprogramm G5 Sahel der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung und das Centre National d'Etudes Stratégiques et de Sécurité (CNESS) organisierten in Niamey/ Niger am 10. und 11. Oktober 2018 eine internationale Konferenz, um den aktuellen Stand sowie die Perspektiven der G5 Sahel Gruppe zu diskutieren. Die Veranstaltung fand in enger Kooperation mit dem Ständigen Sekretariat von G5 Sahel statt, dessen Leiter Maman Sidikou ebenso teilnahm wie die Sonderbeauftragten des Auswärtigem Amtes für den Sahel aus Deutschland, Walter von den Driesch, und aus Frankreich, Jean-Marc Chataigner.

Der Sonderbeauftragte für den Sahel der Französischen Republik, Jean-Marc Chataigner, erläutert den aktuellen Stand der "Sahel Allianz".

Ferner sprachen Vertreter der aktuellen nigrischen Präsidentschaft von G5 Sahel, der EU Polizeimissionen in Mali und Niger, des Bundesministeriums der Verteidigung und der französischen Anti-Terror-Operation im Sahel ("Barkhane") zu den jüngsten Entwicklungen in der Region und zur Zusammenarbeit Sahel und Europa.
