Arab constitutional courts in the light of regional changes

Presidents of the constitutional courts of thirteen countries discuss reforms

From 28th to 29th of February, a congress organized by the Konrad Adenauer foundation took place in Jordan. The high-ranking participants discussed about reforms and challenges of Arab constitutional courts in light of regional changes.

The opening of the congress was marked by the singing of the royal national anthem of the host country Jordan and the reading of verses of the Koran. Amongst the guests speakers were the German ambassador to Jordan Mrs. Birgitta Siefker-Eberle, the president of the Venice Commission Mr. Gianni Buquicchio and the director of the rule of law program for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Mr. Peter Rimmele.

Issues that were discussed on the congress were the principles of the rule of law, the implications of decisions of the constitutional courts as well as procedural questions.

The objectives of the event were to strengthen the constitutional jurisdiction in the MENA region and to offer a forum for a cross-national exchange of experiences.
