Parliamentary work is at the foundation of every well-functioning democracy, professional and independent research and services to parliamentarians have gained increasing importance over the past decades. The Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa in cooperation with the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Parliament of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and backed by the General Secretariat of The Arab Parliamentary Union are organizing a conference on “Parliamentary Research Services – Strengthening the Legislature by Professional and Independent Research and Analysis” taking place in Amman - Jordan on July 2 and 3, 2019.
The Introduction of Ex-Post Constitutional Review Procedures
Developments, Challenges and Application Perspectives in Morocco
In recent years, several institutions charged with constitutional review in the countries of the MENA region have been established for the first time or reformed by the attribution of new procedures. On 13 June 2019, the Rule of Law Programme Middle East/North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer- Stiftung, in partnership with the Agence Judiciaire du Royaume du Maroc, holds an international expert meeting in Rabat, on the introduction of ex-post constitutional review procedures in the MENA region and their application perspectives in Morocco.
Mapping Constitutional Control in the MENA Region Recent Developments, Challenges and Reform Trends
The Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung announces the upcoming international symposium on Mapping Constitutional Control in the MENA Region, that brings together the results of a series of expert meetings that the regional Rule of Law Programme together with the Arab Association for Constitutional Law has carried out over the course of the last two years. The symposium will be held from 15th to 17th April 2019, in Beirut, Lebanon.

Role and Impact of Constitutional Courts in Relation to other High Courts (Mapping V)
The Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in cooperation with the Arab Association for Constitutional Law (AACL), announces the upcoming fifth workshop in a series entitled “Mapping Constitutional Control in the MENA region” on the role of Constitutional Courts in relation to other High Courts. The workshop will be held on the 8th and the 9th of November 2018 in Amman, Jordan.
Application of International Law in the Domestic Legal Order: Control of Treaties’ Constitutionality
From 25th to 27th October, the Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung conduct in cooperation with the Lebanese Centre for International Studies (LCIS) a workshop on the unconstitutionality of treaties.

The Rule of Law Programme KAS in cooperation with the LFPCP conducts a regional conference of judicial training institutes in order to enable the exchange of expertise and therefore enhance the quality of judicial trainings in the MENA region.

Preventing Youth Radicalization
With the aim of contributing to further high-level discussions on countering youth radicalization and as a follow-up to its previous conference on “Innovative Ways to Deal with Violent Extremism”, La Maison du Futur in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, organized this seminar, in order to provide a framework for countering the radicalization of at-risk youth populations across regional and global communities and explore new ways for preventing this new trend.
Transparency and Accountability
On the 18th of November 2016, Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), Maison du Futur (MdF) and Transparency International (TI) conducted a seminar on transparency and accountability. The well attended seminar in Bickfaya, Mount-Lebanon, covered the topic of “Transparency and Accountability” on theoretical and practical levels, drew attention on comparative assessments determining best practices in the context of Lebanon and provided analysis of case studies.

Enhancing the Role and Participation of Women in the Public Sphere
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation in cooperation with the Lebanese Organization of Studies and Training (LOST) and the Local Development Office at the Baalbeck-Hermel Governor’s office (LDO) organized a series of workshops and seminars to empower 80 women in 4 of the largest neighborhoods of Baalbeck city with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for participation in the decision making process at the local level, be it voting or candidacy.
