Anti-Xenophobia Dialogue - Foundation Office South Africa
Discussion
Details
Anti Xenophobia Action (AXA), a programme of the South African Council of Churches was set up as a response to the gaps and weaknesses in the overall response to xenophobic attack and it succeeded in collaborating with relevant organisations and institutions in the fight against human rights violation of non-nationals. AXA has intervened in most reported and unreported incidences of xenophobic attacks nationally with support of churches and church leaders. A steering committee made up of experienced individuals was set up to give leadership to the program and it was located in the office of the SACC General office now situated at Gauteng Council of Churches. AXA has had achievements in its interventions through its community dialogues where communities were allowed to participate in dialogues to find lasting solutions to xenophobic violence. The dialogue aims at encouraging social cohesion and reconciliation in the affected communities.
