South Africa Israel Forum (SAIF) and KAS invites you to a talk on Dangerous Aid-Humanitarians in Hostile Spaces by Gal Lusky. Gal is an Ashoka Fellow, she works for Israel Flying Aid that brings humanitarian aid into war zones, even in places which are officially at war with Israel. Dialogues on Faith and Economics with EFSA (1-3)

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation in cooperation with the Ecumenical Foundation of South Africa (EFSA) and the Right Reverend Bishop Sipuka of Mthatha (and President of the Southern Africa Catholic Bishops' Conference) are hosting a dialogue with experts and leaders from both business and churches to explore how South African role players create a new "social contract" that addresses social justice alongside or with government programmes.
Part of a series of three events, this dialogue will bring business leaders, church leaders and senior experts from both sides together to focus on the following questions: “How do we restore trust and how can we create a new “social contract” – with alternative options to implement partnerships and agreements (apart from, or complementing government options)?

The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the South African Council of Churches invite interested stakeholders to the Anti-Xenophobia seminar. The aim of the seminar is to promote social cohesion by reflecting on xenophobia attacks, discuss the possible causes of the attacks and devising solutions to prevent future attacks. The seminar also aims to strengthen conflict resolution skills of community leaders and improve liaison with the government and other agencies on the provision of relief during attacks.

Bernadette Atuahene hat mit ihrem Buch „We Want What's Ours“ die erste Phase der Landreform zwischen 1994 und 2008 in Südafrika in über 150 Interviews evaluiert und ein international anwendbares Konzept der Wiederherstellung von Recht und Würde nach Zwangsenteignung durch den Staat geschaffen. Die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung hat mit Frau Atuahene Buchpräsentationen in Johannesburg, Durban, Kapstadt und Pretoria organisiert und finanziert.

September 2014 trafen sich auf Einladung der KAS bereits zum zweiten Mal Vertreter von Regierung, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft, um sich über die Rolle der Sozialwirtschaft für nachhaltige Entwicklung in Südafrika auszutauschen und zu diskutieren. In Vorträgen und Podiumsdiskussionen fand eine rege Auseinandersetzung mit Fragen zur Förderung, Finanzierung und dem rechtlichen Rahmen für sozial verantwortungsvolle Unternehmen statt.

The Social and Solidarity Economy Conference Report

On the 3rd and 4th of September 2014 representatives from the government, economic sector and academic institutions gathered for a second time, on the invitation of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), to discuss and exchange ideas on the role of the social economy for South Africa’s sustainable development. Presentations and panel dis-cussions stressed questions of development, funding and the legislative framework for socially responsible corporations. Matthias Schäfer, head of the Economic Policy Department of KAS in Berlin, gave insight into the German model of the Social Market Economy.

KAS-GPPi African Civil Society Circle Workshop Summary, 14-15 August 2014

The inaugural workshop of the African Civil Society Circle was convened on 14-15 August 2014 in Johannesburg with two main overarching goals: to strengthen the connections between think tanks and civil society organisations in Southern Africa and to develop and promote common positions on key development challenges. With these goals in mind, the group discussed and defined thematic priorities, decided on a series of initial outputs that will promote positions on key African development challenges as well as agreed on conferences and fora that the group aims to address and influence.
