4th KAS/CUD Roundtable Discussion 2018

On 14 November 2018, the Centre for Unity in Diversity (CUD) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) jointly hosted the fourth and last roundtable discussion of this year's series at the Protea Fire and Ice Hotel in Cape Town. The discussion focused on the topic ‘The Loss of Civility in Discourse’ with Professor Mills Soko, former Director of the UCT Graduate School of Business, as the guest speaker.

KAS-SAIIA Alumni and Networking Dinner 2018

On November 8, 2018 the annual dinner with our KAS-SAIIA scholars and alumni was hosted by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation South Africa with our long-time partner - South African Institute for International Affairs (SAIIA). At the exquisite venue of Clico Hotel Rosebank in Johannesburg, 17 scholars of many generations came together with the staff of KAS and SAIIA for this highly anticipated event of the year.

Orientation training workshop for traditional leaders from Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba (Malawi)

On 30 and 31 October 2018, another workshop for traditional leaders of the Traditional Authority Mlumbe took place in Zomba, Malawi. For two days, 75 participants were introduced to the new land law in Malawi. The workshop was financed by the KAS and carried out in cooperation with the organisation partners of the National Association of Smallholder Famers of Malawi (NASFAM) and LandNet Malawi. In addition, the workshop was accompanied by the community radio station "Chanco".

On 30th October 2018, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in partnership with the Western Cape branch of the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA WC) hosted a Speakers Meeting at the SA Mountain Club in Cape Town on the topic: “Russia, Ukraine and Hybrid Warfare” with Dr. Eugene Czolij, President of the Ukrainian World Congress, as the guest speaker and Dr. Sara Pienaar, former National Director of SAIIA, as the respondent.

On the 30th October 2018, the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR), the Afrobarometer Network and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) hosted the release of the Afrobarometer Survey results 2018 on South Africans’ perceptions on elections, political parties and their trust in the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

The State we are in: Discussion about the Venezuela's approach to the land question

On the 11th of October, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation South Africa and the University of Pretoria hosted a seminar with the topic “The state we are in: Discussing Venezuela’s approach to the land question”. The presentations were delivered by two Venezuelan Members of Parliament: Miguel Pizarro and Dr. José Manuel Olivares of Primero Justicia. Venezuela has been going through one of the biggest man-made economic crisis in Latin America since the misled socialist politics of President Hugo Chavez, which includes land expropriation without compensation. At the same time in South Africa the topic of land expropriation without compensation is highly debated. The seminar facilitated a conversation between the two Venezuelans politicians and the delegates, most of whom were students and lecturers.

KAS/Ubuntu Breakfast Discussion Series with Aubrey Matshiqi

“New or False Dawn: Dreaming a New South Africa into being” was the title of the keynote speech by renowned Political Analyst Aubrey Matshiqi at the Ubuntu Business Breakfast at the One&Only Hotel in Cape Town on 19th October 2018. The breakfast was jointly hosted by the South African Ubuntu Foundation (SAUF) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS).
