Soccer Match between Religious Leaders and Members of the Diplomatic Corps for Peaceful Elections

In order to support democratic, peaceful, free and fair elections the members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Tanzania and religious leaders from Tanzania took part in a soccer match in the National Stadium of Dar es Salaam on the 17th of October 2015 using the strong and uniting language of this sport. The symbolical friendly match between the teams "Amani" (religious leaders) and "Mshikamano" (members of the diplomatic corps) was played as a pre-match to the official TFF league match between Young Africans and Azam FC.

The Position of Religious and Political Leaders

On the 14th and 15th of September 2015 the Interreligious Council for Peace Tanzania (IRCPT), the Tanzania Centre for Democracy (TCD) and KAS Tanzania convened a Maendeleo Dialogue on "Peaceful Campaigns and Elections – the Position of Religious and Political Leaders". The event took place in Dar es Salaam.

PERSPECTIVES OF THE YOUNG GENERATION IN TANZANIA AND GERMANY

On the 17th of August 2015, KAS Tanzania together with FES Tanzania and PAMOJA, an intercultural exchange programme, jointly conducted a one-day workshop in Dar es Salaam. Students from Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy (Tanzania) and Westfälische Wilhelms-University Münster (Germany) participated in the event.

Rights and duties of youth during elections

On the 13th and 14th of August 2015 the Civic Education Teachers Association (CETA) and KAS organized a two-day symposium on Free and Fair Elections for secondary, college and university students as well as secondary school teachers. The symposium dwelt on two topics in particular, namely: the principles of Free and Fair Election; and the role of youth in enhancing Free and Fair Elections. The event took place at the National Museum in Dar es Salaam and was attended by more than 800 participants.

Round Table Discussion on BVR, Free and Fair Elections

THE ROLE OF RELIGIOUS LEADERS

On the 03rd of July 2015 KAS carried out a round table discussion on Biometric Voter Registration (BVR), free and fair elections. Tanzania is holding general elections in October 2015 and for the moment is conducting the respective registration process. Therefore, this topic is highly important to the population and respective leaders and gains much attention. The discussion addressed the particular role of religious leaders within the matter. The event, which was held at Karimjee Hall in Dar es Salaam, was attended by the Prime Minister Hon. Mizengo Kayanza Peter Pinda as the Chief Guest.

THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY OF WOMEN LEADERS IN THE SOCIETY, POLITICS AND ECONOMY

LEADERSHIPTRAINING WITH THE CATHOLIC WOMEN’S ORGAISATION WAWATA

On three weekends in May (08.-10., 15.-17. & 22.-24. May 2015) about 50 women that are active in their parishes as leaders of the catholic women group “Wanawake Wakatoliki wa Tanzania” (WAWATA) came together to learn about leadership in general and the social, political and economic roles and responsibilities of women leaders in specific. The event, which was organized by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in cooperation with the WAWATA-Leadership of the arch-diocese Dar es Salaam, aimed at strengthening the organizational structure of the women group and increasing their involvement in the community.

World Press Freedom Day 2015

MEDIA STAKEHOLDERS OF TANZANIA PROTEST AGAINST NEW MEDIA LAWS

From the 2nd to the 3rd of May, about 250 journalists and media stakeholders seized the World Press Freedom Day in Morogoro as an opportunity to take a stand against the increasing restrictions on the freedom of opinion and expression as well as the press freedom in Tanzania. The event, which in this year was co-organised by KAS, addressed the topic “Media Safety in the Digital Age: Better Reporting, Gender Equality & Privacy“. In the context of the restrictive media acts that were recently passed by the National Assembly, the event gained much importance as well as attention.

President Kikwete opens the new Leadership, Ethics and Governance Training Programme

KONRAD-ADENAUER-STIFTUNG AND MWALIMU NYERERE MEMORIAL ACADEMY REVIVE THE HISTORICAL LINK

On the 13th of April 2015, the birthday of the first Tanzanian President Julius Kambarage Nyerere, the Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy (MNMA) inaugurated their new “Leadership, Ethics and Governance Training Programme“. The event was supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS).

Countrywide Capacity Building for Political Leaders

From 8 to 23 March 2015 the KAS team, accompanied by members of their partner party CHADEMA, divided in six groups, set off from Dar es Salaam to a nationwide training for the regional and local leaders of the KAS partner party CHADEMA. About 1200 elected representatives of CHADEMA came together to the advanced trainings in altogether 22 counties, from Mbeya in the South of Tanzania up to Mara, at the north-east lakeshore of the Lake Victoria.
