Vor einem Jahr wurden bei dem größten Gipfeltreffen aller Zeiten in New York 17 nachhaltige Entwicklungsziele für 2030 verabschiedet. Eines davon ist Ziel 8: Gute und menschenwürdige Arbeitsplätze schaffen. Dies scheint für Uganda eine der wichtigsten Herausforderungen der nächsten Jahr(zehnt)e zu adressieren – die hohe Jugendarbeitslosigkeit. Wie sieht es derzeit aus in Uganda, dem Land mit einer der jüngsten Bevölkerungen der Welt? Wie versucht die Regierung, Jobs für junge Menschen zu kreieren? Und ist die Zielsetzung, bis 2030 Arbeitsplätze für alle zu schaffen, wirklich realistisch?

Taking Action – Prospects for Possible Foreign Interventions in the South Sudanese Civil War

On 26th August, the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung Uganda and South Sudan, in cooperation with the University Fo-rum for Governance (UNIFOG) organized a full-day symposium on possibilities for peace and inclusive state-building in South Sudan. Reflecting on practical proposals for solutions and feasible actions to improve on the sit-uation in Uganda’s northern neighbour-state, there was clearly one key question that came to dominate the debate: the question of foreign inter-vention.

South Sudan – Triumph of Diplomacy at Last?

Following the latest peace deal signed on 27 August to bring South Sudan’s civil war to an end, Mr. Kiir and Mr. Machar, president and reinstated deputy, have agreed to cease all fighting. However, regardless of whether the deal takes hold over upcoming weeks, the devastating war has already ravaged the impover-ished nation over the past two years.
