Scholarship Annoucement 2019

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in collaboration with Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) announces scholarships for Bachelor and Master’s degree programmes in four disciplines (see document). The scholarships are targeted towards aspiring future leaders across a range of social, political, and economic fields. Applicants will have to prove their leadership potential in order to be considered for the scholarship.

In South Sudan, KAS Scholarship Alumni Are Sowing Seeds of Peace and Stability

On 21st August 2013, Mawa George from Yei River State in South Sudan got a phone call from an administrator at KAS that would forever change his life. The phone call was relaying to him the great news that he had been selected as one of the four students from South Sudan to benefit from a scholarship programme by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stfitung at the Uganda Martyrs University. The greatness of the news laid in the fact that without the scholarship, George was not sure if he would even enroll for the programme, although he had been admitted to the university. To George, a university degree was a ticket to better life for himself; a gateway to the success of a small community organization he had founded and an inspiration to thousands of young people in his community.

How can females students' enrollment in STEM be improved?

Increasing female students' enrollment boosts the chances of employment and economic inclusion for women, as most new job opportunities demand STEM-related skills. One reason, why the percentage of female students is low in STEM are social constraints. Therefore, policies need to focus on social constraints.

Increased investment in the oil and mining sector has led to a proliferation of business-related human rights violations. As the victims do not always have access to effective remedy, there is a need for a new policy to enable access to judicial remedies.
