On the occasion of the visit of the Former German President Prof. Dr. Horst Köhler to Uganda in June 2011 the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is organizing a conference under the theme "The Role of State and Market for Sustainable Development in Africa" on 18th June 2011 at the Serena Hotel in Kampala.

As a starting point for the discussion, KAS Uganda will launch the publication "Reality Check - Economic Policies in Uganda and the Principles of Social Market Economy", written by the Ugandan economist Dr. Evarist Twimukye. The paper analyses social policies in Uganda in light of the principles of the social market economy.

In a panel discussion Prof. Dr. Köhler will interact with Prof. Emmanuel Tumumsiime-Mutebile, Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Prof. Maggie Kigozi, Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority, and successful businessman Prof. Gordon Wavamunno.
