In Partnership with Centre for Development Alternatives and Public Policy Institute, KAS conducts the first of three policy learning missions for the second cohort of fellows from the Youth4Policy programme. Instructed in detailed policy analysis and research, the fellows will begin to develop the contents of their proposed policy briefs.

Reflection Meeting for District and Sub-County Women Caucuses

Action for Development (ACFODE) in partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) engages both aspiring and elected women leaders with the aim of increasing transformative representation of women in political and decision-making positions. One of the key strategies used is Women Caucuses. ACFODE in partnership with KAS will conduct a follow-up of the women caucus in Apac District. The follow up will focus on how the caucuses have been able to utilize the knowledge and skills gained from the exchange learning visits and the different engagements to replicate best practices and lessons learned to improve the lives of women and girls in their constituencies.

The Directorate for National Guidance (DNG) in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) organises a workshop to train elected leaders on key topics that are geared towards fostering togetherness and ensuring that district councils work effectively in a multiparty system at the district level.

Youth interventions ought to be mainstreamed

Most conversations on youth have only focussed on what needs to be done and what is missing. It is commonplace for example, to find young people demanding for new policies, new programmes, new departments, to mention a few. But reviewing and analyzing the broad theme of success within the context of leadership in Africa and the role of her young and emerging leaders is a subject that requires some deep reflection. Young leaders from East Africa who are fellows of the Young and Emerging Leaders Project which is a collaborative initiative of the LeO Africa Institute and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung explored this topic at a recently concluded 2017 second seminar series.

Her speech explored how and why Social networks, online news websites and blogs have become crucial alternative sources of information. The gist of her talk was that the “democratization of information” should not affect the quality of information.

The violence that erupted in July 2016, the same week of the country’s fifth independence anniversary has ushered in avalanche of violent contestations with no end in sight. The country has turned into a hotbed of conflict among the various warring factions divided along ethnic lines. While the running conflict between SPLM in Government and that in Opposition keeps gaining fresh momentum, new and different militia groups keep forming and sprouting at an alarming rate.
