VISION NIGERIA by KAS – Selected broadcasts for the month of November 2012

“Democracy – the rule of law – Prosperity for all”, that is the Vision Nigeria of KAS. Through its interactive radio programme, KAS informs millions of Nigerians. Here is an overview of selected broadcasts in November.

With a weekly one hour airing of “Vision Nigeria” in Enugu, Kaduna and Port Harcourt, there are wide ranges of topics, in relation to the long term development policy issues as well as current political events. In November 2012, KAS and partners will focus on these topics

ENUGU

Co-ordinator: Ngozi Owoh on FRCN Enugu, Coal City (Fridays 1 – 2 pm)

On 2/11/2012 Barrister Okey Okibe, a legal practitioner and a social and contemporary issues commentator will be guest speaker when the issue of persistent scarcity of fuel will be brought to discourse in the topic Impact of Persistent fuel scarcity and hike in the pump price on national development. The socio-economic effects of this trend will also be analysed.

The next episode 9/11/2012 would welcome Mr. Jude Chime, who is a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, and he will be talking on the topic Enhancing Nigeria Educational System: A look at the current secondary school Educational Curriculum. In the aftermath of a new curriculum for secondary schools being launched by the federal government, the topic tries to analyse this scheme in comparison with previous schemes and how it improves the standards of the Nigerian educational system.

16/11/2012. Topic: Protecting the most Vulnerable in the face of Conflicts. Dr. Mrs. Agujiobi, a development worker from Nsukka, Enugu State will be the Guest speaker as Conflict in all its forms is analysed and considered from the perspective of affected citizens; the most vulnerable group being women and children. The conditions of women and children in conflict situations will be explored deeply.

Accessing YouWin as a Veritable Tool for Economic Empowerment for Nigerian Youth will be the Topic of discussion on 23/11/2012. Mr. Benjamin Sunny Okafor, a lawyer, writer and social activist comes to inform us on the YouWin (Youths Enterprise With Initiative in Nigeria) initiative. This is an innovative business plan aimed at job creation by encouraging youths and supporting aspiring youths to develop and execute entrepreneurial ideas in order to combat the unemployment among youths.

The month closes with the 30/11/2012 session in which the topic will be Ensuring Transparency in Government through Citizenship Participation: A case study of the On-going Good Governance Tour. Barrister O.J.P Ugwu, Director of Planning, Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, Enugu, will be present as guest speaker and the role of the civil society in kick- starting good governance in Nigeria and how active participation on their part would further enhance transparency in government.

KADUNA

Co-ordinator: Yanwaidi Zwahu on Capital Sound 90.9 FM (Thursdays 5 – 6 pm)

1//11/2012. Topic: Security Preparedness for LG Elections in Kaduna State. As the local government elections draw near and with recent violent activities in the State, the Kaduna State Police Command assures the general public on the steps taken by the police to ensure safety ahead of the elections.

On 8/11/2012, Barr. Maxwell Kyon and Dr. Ethan Mijah are guests as they give a Review of LG elections in Kaduna State.

15/11/2012 Topic: LGs in Kaduna State under the new Structure. Barrister Francis Kozah and Dr. Mohammed Ashafa will be guest speakers.

22/11/2012 and 29/11/2012. Topic: Renewing Milestone and Major Events in 2012.

PORT HARCOURT

Co-ordinator: Colins Imoh on Rivers 99.1 FM (Thursdays 3 – 4 pm)

1/11/2012. Mr. Godwin Frank an Environmentalist and a representative from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will be Guest Speakers on the topic Flooding and Protecting our Environment.

8/11/2012. Medical Doctor and Public Commentator, Dr. Jude Ohanele talks on the topic Improving our Health Sector as a basis for National Development.

15/11/2012. Barr. Solabo West is a legal practitioner in Port Harcourt and he will be informing us on topic Reforming the Bakassi Peninsula and Land Use Act.

22/11/2012. Topic: Self-Awareness; The basis for systemic change.

29/11/2012. At the last session for the month, we will welcome two Religious Leaders to speak on Religious Tolerance and National Development. They are the Chief Imam of Port Harcourt and Fr. Chris Anyawu.
