Cities as Actors in EU-Asia Cooperation - Foundation Office China
Expert conference
Details
Europe and to an even larger extent Asia is witnessing a rapid process of urbanization. Best example is China’s urbanization, where currently a mere 53% of the population are living in cities and another 200 million are projected to move to cities within the next 20 years. This represents a gigantic chance, but also poses many challenges at the same time.
At the center of the EU-China Agenda 2020 is the issue of urbanization. In this framework issues such as sustainable urbanization, new information technologies as well as urban-rural integration are discussed and best practices are exchanged.
With the support of KAS Shanghai, the UACES network EU-China, with representatives from the ESSCA School of Management Angers, the College of Europe in Brügge as well as the Graduate School of Politics of the FU Berlin, organizes an international workshop on the topic “Cities as actors in EU-Asia Cooperation” from March 19 to 21, 2015. Co-Organiser and host is the University of Sichuan in Chengdu. Participants of the workshop include representatives from academia, business, cities and the EU. The workshop analyses the importance of cities as actors in international relations with a particular focus on EU-Asia relations. In this context possibilities for cooperation between European and Asian cities in the field of business and urban creativity are to be discussed and examples of “green” city planning are debated.
