Details

The Regional Program Energy Security and Climate Change Middle East and North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V. (KAS-REMENA) has been a key partner to the Moroccan Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) in its flagship event, the World Power-to-X Summit, since its inception. As a continuation of the successful partnership, KAS-REMENA and IRESEN and numerous other national and international partners joined hands to implement the 3rd World Power-to-X Summit on 19-20 September 2023 in Marrakesh. The summit was organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

With over 1.000 participants from across the globe, this summit provided a robust platform for advancing crucial discussions within the hydrogen industry, tackling policy, research, technology and business.

KAS-REMENA’s engagement in this year’s summit included the participation in two main stage panels, focusing on creating an enabling regulatory framework policy for Power-to-X (PtX) and the impact of water desalination for hydrogen economy on water security.

In our endeavor to promote regional decarbonization and attract energy-intensive industries, KAS-REMENA also hosted an official side event, which addressed the vital topic of green industrialization in North Africa. Looking both at private sector needs and progress in incorporating Power-to-X for domestic use and decarbonization of industries, as well as the necessary policy and strategic frameworks to foster this process, the side event contributed to advancing the discussion on these crucial and so far rarely discussed avenues for economic development in North Africa.

Additionally, KAS-REMENA hosted an exhibition booth to showcase our research and dialogue initiatives. This platform allowed us to interact with attendees, disseminate our publications, and engage in enlightening conversations highlighting our commitment to promoting cooperation through dialogue.

As we move forward, KAS-REMENA remains committed to advancing discussions on green industrialization and the scaling up of hydrogen production in the MENA region and beyond in partnership with Germany and the EU, which are pivotal elements of the global energy transition. We are eager to continue these important dialogues and explore new opportunities in the ever-evolving landscape of sustainable energy.
