Awarding of the certificates on the Beykent University in Istanbul

Opening speech by Walter Glos, Director of KAS Turkey before the lecture on "Turkey-EU Relations - Discussions on the Future of the European Union" by Prof. Dr. M. Nail ALKAN

The participants of the 116th EU Certificate program at the Beykent University follow the lectures attentively

"The structure of the European Union, its institutions and decision-making mechanisms" - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Armağan GÖZKAMAN (Beykent University)

In this sense, The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Turkey organized the 116th EU Education and Certificate Program in cooperation with the Turkish-German Association for Solidarity and Integration (TANDEM) at Beykent University in the period from 21 - 25 October 2019.

The first day of the certificate program began with an opening speech by Mr. Walter Glos, the Director of KAS Turkey and followed by an Q&A where students could ask questions about the EU-Turkey accession process referring to the last developments in Syria and its effects on the EU-Turkey relations. After that Prof. Dr. Nail Alkan from Hacı Bayram Veli University, who is also the director of TANDEM made an interactive presentation on Turkey-EU relations and the future prospects of the EU. In this lecture, with high participation in the discussion, the topic of the EU accession of Turkey turned out to be of utmost importance.

In the lecture on the second day Prof. Dr. Bilal Karabulut reported on the European Union's foreign security and defence policy. He made an important contribution to understanding EU’s regional and global security interests and responsibilities through its common foreign policy.

Dr. Levent Ersin Orallı presented EU project management on the third day of the certificate program. This lecture aroused enormous interest among the young participants. They got fundamental knowledge about opportunities for different EU programs, procedures as well as best practices for management of the EU projects.

Prof. Dr. Sezai Türk continued on the fourth day with an effective presentation about the EU’s media policy and the EU on social media. The discussion about the power of the media as well as the influence of the social media on today's society led to much discussion.

On the last day of the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Armağan Gözkaman from Beykent University presented the EU's institutions and decision-making mechanisms. He analyzed the voting methods used by EU institutions to make decisions under common policies.

The Program was concluded with the award of certificates to 174 out of 398 participants.

Once again, the EU Education and Certificate Program has shown that Turkish young academics and future leaders are very interested in the European Union and Turkey's accession to the EU.
